Overall, all the pastas are great! They are excellent sources of carbohydrates, which babies need to support their rapid growth and development.

Legume-based pastas (such as chickpeas, lentils, edamame) have the added benefit of providing more iron, protein, and fiber than rice- and wheat-based pastas. They are more expensive though, so shop around.

And like toast and oatmeal, pasta is a great way to introduce your baby to all kinds of nutrients.
It may sound counterintuitive, BUT bigger is better and safer for babies just starting solids. Fusilli, rigatoni, ziti, penne, egg pasta and lasagna cut into strips are great options.
If you are spoon feeding or encouraging your baby to use a spoon, small pastas like orzo, mini stars or shredded angel hair/spaghetti will work well.
Once they develop a grip on their tongs (usually around 9-10 months), you can serve smaller shapes, such as pasta, orzo, orecchiette, or cut large pasta.

Yes, although it can cause a lot of scratching when you first start solids. Serving it with a sauce, like the one I’m sharing here, helps make the pasta more hearty.
Just be aware that if you are introducing pasta that contains wheat and/or eggs, these are two of the most common allergens. It is recommended that you introduce these early AND often, but if this is your first time, then proceed with caution.
Cream Cheese & Courgette Pasta
You can introduce more than one food at a time, but make sure that there are no two major allergens in the same meal. That way, if your child has a reaction, you’ll know exactly what’s responsible.
Cook a few minutes longer than the package directions say so the pasta is soft enough for your child to chew with their teeth.
Again, it doesn’t need teeth, but you want to make sure it’s texturally appropriate. If your family prefers al dente pasta, like mine, then simply remove the family portion once the pasta reaches the desired doneness and cook the child’s portion a little longer.
Before you start suspecting that certain foods are to blame for your lack of bowel movement, I encourage you to consider their diet as a whole.

In general, is your baby getting enough fiber-rich foods? If you serve refined pasta daily, then maybe. Here’s another reason why you should vary the types of pasta.
I would strongly advise against it. Pasta contains a lot of starch, and when you mix it, you end up with a very unpleasant, sticky texture that can actually become a choking hazard.
If you’re a puree, I can understand your anxiety about moving forward with the texture. However, it really is essential to minimize texture aversion and picky eating on the go. If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, I have some amazing resources for you!

Serve, thick or smooth, with your favorite shape/variety of pasta.
Pasta can be introduced from 6 months. Be careful and watch closely that you have not yet introduced eggs or wheat (common allergens) to your baby’s diet, as pasta may contain both.
Offer variety! In general, pasta made from legume flour (chickpeas, lentils, black beans, etc.) has more nutrients, but all types of pasta are a source of carbohydrates for your growing baby.
The form you give will depend on your child’s age and stage. Larger pasta shapes like fettuccine pasta, lasagna sheets cut into strips are easier for your child to pick up. The large spirals (pictured) are also easy to hold and allow the sauce to adhere well.
When Can Babies Have Pasta?
If your baby prefers to use a spoon / be spoon fed, then small baby pasta (like orzo or mini stars) or shredded spaghetti are good options.
For starters, you may want to cook the pasta a little longer than usual, past al dente, so it’s nice and soft. Do not add salt to your child’s pasta water.
